Ash Grunwald Grunwald drew attention as a solo artist with the release of 2002's Introducing Ash Grunwald. In 2004 Ash released his followed this up with the album I Don't Believe, recorded solo and live. The result, an experimental bang and clang percussion using hammers, spanners, pots, combined with a boss loop station, his lap steel, dobro and acoustic guitars. On the strength of this release Grunwald won an ARIA award nomination for Best Blues And Roots Album, and the Victorian Blues award for Male Vocalist Of The Year (equal with Lloyd Spiegel) and in 2005 the MBAS Vic / Tas award for Solo / Duo Of The Year (equal with Dave Hogan). Grunwald since released twelve original songs on the album, ‘Give Signs’ receiving another ARIA nomination for Best Blues and Roots Album. Following the release in 2006, Grunwald supported James Brown at his Tasmanian concert. Ash’s latest LP 'Fish Out Of Water' has been greeted with positive reviews, many of the critics saying it is one of the best blues/roots albums of the year and a career highlight, with a hip hop edge an addition to Ash's traditional Delta blues. Touring all over the world, Ash Grunwald has gained many musical accolades and fans. His intense "One Man Band" live show produces a wall of sound that has made him a festival favourite all over the globe. |
